Treasure Nests: Layering Surfaces in the Third Dimension [PDF]
Create refined vessels while exploring the potential and unique qualities for surface design and mark-making in felt. The class covers sculpting techniques using wool and novelty fibres, and explores felt-specific techniques for surface design including fibre blending, pattern inlay, using 'unusual' fibres (and common fibres in an 'unusual' way!), applying stitch and mixed media. Discover the possibilities through individual projects and make your mark in 3D form. Advanced work can be undertaken in extended classes, including additional techniques such as looping, cording and coiling, and silk paper-making.
Mandala Felts [PDF]
Make a rug inspired by traditional design principles of the ‘Mandala’ (a Sanskrit word meaning 'circle'). Mandala designs appear in many cultures and reflect a well-balanced composition of individual parts that come to form an integrated whole. In this class, we explore design and mark-making techniques unique to the felt medium and applied at various stages of the felt-making process. Particular foci include colour blending and effects, pattern inlay, the use of pre-felts and yarns, and the textural effects of elementary stitch. This class aims to expand your creative process and 'vocabulary' of applying surface design and composition in felt. (Note: Minimum duration 3 days).
Jewellery Adorned: Sculpture on a Precious Scale [PDF]
Learn a variety of innovative felting techniques to make uniquely shaped jewellery components: beads, necklaces, earrings, brooches, bracelets and bangles to name a few! Using hand-dyed Fine Merino wool and other fibres, we explore the wondrous world of wet-felting on a precious scale. A hand-on workshop with lots of demonstrations and playtime, resulting in inspired creations finished to a high standard.
Also available: Jewelry Advanced: Taking Wearable Sculpture Further (intermediate and beyond) [PDF]
Inspired by Nature [PDF]
Take wool fibres, add inspirations from the natural environment and explore some of the endless possibilities in hand-made felt. Start with sampling different surface and textural effects, then try your hand at vessel shapes and pods, a bird's nest or shell. Organic forms are ideally suited to incorporate locally gathered natural materials. Learn innovative techniques, including using multiple resists for sculptural effects. Like the natural world itself, the sky is the felting limit.
Jigsaw Weave & Felt [PDF]
Investigate the wondrous possibilities of incorporating woven effects in handmade felt. Learn to interweave pre-felts made from Fine Merino wool, finish your felt pieces with attention to technical detail for optimum effect. Choose your colour palette and designs for striking results. Jigsaw Weave & Felt is a unique way of making felt with a strong visual impact. The possibilities are endless; including cushions, bags, wearables and a range of accessories.
Layering Surfaces: Expanding Texture, Colour & Composition in Felt Design [PDF]
A class for those wanting to expand their creative process and ‘vocabulary’ in felt. Explore a range of felt-specific techniques for unique surface design and design, including new ways of colour and fibre blending, pattern inlay and shading, the thrill of 'cut & paste', and the varied effects of incorporating elementary stitch. We start with a range of unique samples to 'shift, shuffle & shake’ ideas into new directions; our focus will be on 2-D felts with the aim to develop a larger art-felt piece in-class. However, the distinctive design features equally apply to 3-D and sculptural forms so if that’s your thing you’re in the right place too! Intermediate/Advanced.
Wrapped in Nuno [PDF]
Imagine using Fine Merino wool fibres as your paintbrush and sheer silk fabrics as your canvas. Now felt the two together! The result is called Nuno Felt; a light-weight textile with uniquely textured surface and supple drape. You will learn about the principles of Nuno felting by making a scarf or wrap. Depending on the length of the class, techniques may also include mutli-layered Nuno, the use of resists, adding tassels and designing Nuno pre-felts. The focus is on 'quality in creativity'; Nuno felting is wonderfully playful' - the aim is to also finish works to a high standard. All levels of experience.

Extend the concept of ‘recycling’ and combine pre-loved knitwear garments with wool fibres for flourishing results in hand-made felt. Design and create reversible bags, funky hats, cushion covers, blankets and more. The unique textural and patterning effects are striking. A 'must-do' class for those who want to ‘re-use and re-purpose’. Intermediate level.
